Who was Lord Vishwakarma?

Lord Vishwakarma is the son of Lord Brahma. Hindu mythology believes that he is the one who designed and created the Earth and the Universe and its beautiful mythical palaces of all time in all the yugas. The eminent ‘Indralok’ in Sat yuga, the magnificent ‘Sone ki Lanka’ for Ravan and the mystical cities of ‘Indraprastha’ for Pandavas and ‘Hastinapur’ for Pandavas and Kauravas. His list of achievement includes the name of our dear God, ‘Krishna’ as well for the City of Dwarka. He is the mastermind behind the artistic and mechanical foundation of everything existing on the Earth. The very powerful weapon ‘Ajra’, which was created by the bones of Sage Dadhichi.

Why is Lord Vishwakarma worshipped?

The divine architect, the divine engineer, craftsman of all craftsmen. All artistic inclinations take its root from the lord and reaches to the subtle mind of a human being. The author of the Veda, Sthapatya Veda which is the Veda of architecture. People who are associated with the field of engineering, architecture and design worship Lord Vishwakarma. He blesses the Sadhak and gives away his artistic essence. If you are blessed by him, then no wonder, your urge to create something will grow bigger and bigger, louder and louder with each passing day placing its core with the God and the rest that will happen will be the divine intervention.

Significance of the day

To get his blessings, people arrange for the Vishwakarma Puja in their offices. The office should be cleaned before placing the idol. The most important step includes getting an idol or image of the lord and placing it. The following mantra is chanted to please the Lord: “Om Adhar Shaktapey Namaha, Om Kumayi Namaha, and Om Anantam Namaha, Privthiyayi Namaha ’’ New clothes are being worn by the employees which metaphorically means to start afresh. All the employees and their family members witness the puja and seek blessings. On the day of puja, the machines are put to rest so that God will get the time to bless the machines to save the factory from accidents. It is lucky to buy a new machine on Vishwakarma Jayanti. In the evening, arti is arranged at the place where machines are kept. Lightened diya along with flowers and betel leafs are kept in the thali. Kumkum is applied on the machines, they are worshipped for whatever that is constructed in the universe is by the will of Lord Vishwakarma. He is the one we should seek to bless us with his construction and save us from the same as well.

The very next of the puja, the idol is Visarjit in a water body. He takes away all the toxic, detoxifying the working space to let the creative ideas flow. Kite flying is an important aspect of Vishwakarma Jayanti. The whole sky is dazzled by the colors fiery and mild. They are all humanly ways to get to the creator, to quench the urge to create something.
